5 Stars Practical Introduction to PS
If you’re new to Photoshop, this book gives you the essentials of the program. It then goes beyond the basics and shows you handy techniques in this very robust program. The exercises are step by step, and even in the early chapters experienced users can pick up handy tips for routine processes. The integration of the text and the disk is well done, but you can learn from the book even without the computer explanations. A particularly handy quick overview is the video summary of each chapter. Worth the money because it allows the user to get the most out of his or her investment in the Photoshop program.

5 Stars A Great Introduction
I purchased this book in order to get more insight on all the features of Photoshop. I wasn’t disappointed. I thought the chapters were well organized. And everything worked that way the book said it would. Just follow the directions and you should do well.

Once you finish this book, get a copy of Photoshop CS4 Channels & Masks One-on-One by Deke McClelland.

5 Stars Very Helpful
As I have mentioned in most of my photography reviews I’m a 60’s something dinosaur who has a 1970’s Master’s Degree in Photography. I understand photography but I’m learning digital. This book is very helpful. It is not the “Be All End All” for Photoshop but then I don’t think there is one. I subscribe to [...], am a member of NAPP, and attend every seminar that gets within 200 miles of my southern Arizona home. I find that everyone thinks something else is the “Most Important” part of Photoshop. This is one of the blocks in my education. It is very well done and I appreciate the lesson files.

5 Stars Excellent
I’ve gotten through the first nine chapters and find this book has an excellent way of teaching. In only two cases have I looked at the videos for help. I like the way they use pictures to help you see exactly what you are going to do. I just checked the errata on their website because I was having problems with the “reset Adobe Photoshop CS4 Preferences” on page 3. I found on Adobe that you should press Ctrl+Alt+Shift immediately AFTER launching Photoshop. I highly recommend this book. I had been dabbling in Photoshop for about a month before receiving the book. The book helped me explore some amazingly powerful aspects of Photoshop.

5 Stars Mystery solved
I used to wonder what was so great about Photoshop. I had often heard of it’s use by photographers and how it could be used to falsify photographs of real world objects. Then, as an artist, I learned that it could be useful from a illustrator’s point of view. This book opens up all the aspects of photoshop that are not apparent from the many menu and dialog items available in the application itself. It provides examples of how to use Photoshop to its fullest. Now I think I have an idea why it is so expensive! It is just an excellent piece of software! I can only say that because of this book. It has opened up possibilities that I have not even dreamed of before, and has widened my artistic horizons.

4 Stars Satisfied Customer
Thanks for getting the book to me in a timely manner. It has been very beneficial to my learning process of CS4 Photoshop. I plan to use the book more and more as the need arises.

5 Stars Still the best
Martin Evening was one of the first to explain Photoshop from the photographer’s viewpoint. Too many other books are written by graphic artists and others who understand design, retouching, etc., but really don’t understand photography. Evening does. This latest update is a worthy addition that anyone who is serious about photography will appreciate. It speaks our language in detailing exactly how to use each Photoshop feature to improve our images. I recommend this book.

5 Stars Valuable Resource
Martin Evening’s ” Adobe Photoshop CS4 for Photographers” is great! It’s very comprehensive, and clear. It’s beautifully illustrated with many examples of how images are effected by the various tools and procedures. Martin Evening is a working photographer, Photoshop master, and very good teacher.

The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers Voices That Matter

Scott Kelby, the best-selling Photoshop author in the world today, once again takes this book to a whole new level as he uncovers the latest, most important and most exciting new Adobe Photoshop CS2 techniques for digital photographers.

This major update to this award-winning, record-breaking book does something for digital photographers that’s never been done before–it

cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own

settings or figure it out on your own. Instead, Scott shows you step-by-step the exact techniques used by today’s cutting-edge digital

photographers and, best of all, he shows you, flat-out, exactly which settings to use, when to use them, and why. That’s why the previous

version of this book took the digital photography world by storm.

But now, his new CS2, version is even bigger, even better, and exposes even more of the pros most closely guarded secrets, including a special chapter which shows, for the first time ever, step-by-step how to how to set-up Photoshop’s color management. He does it by throwing out all the theory, all the techno-babble, and all the confusing charts and graphs and instead just shows you exactly what you need to do (and

nothing more).

LEARN HOW THE PROS DO IT

Each year Scott trains thousands of professional photographers how to use Photoshop, and almost without exception they have the same

questions, the same problems, and the same challenges–and that’s exactly what he covers in this book. You’ll learn:

• The sharpening techniques the pros really use (there’s an entire chapter on, just this!)

• The pros tricks for fixing the most common digital photo problems fast!

• The step-by-step set-up for getting what comes out of your printer to match exactly what you saw on screen

• The retouching secrets of how the pros retouch portraits

• How to process raw digital camera images (plus how to take advantage of all the new Camera Raw features of CS2!)

• How to color correct any photo without breaking a sweat (you’ll be amazed at how easy it is–once you know the secret)

• A whole chapter on the latest, most requested Photoshop special effects • How to reduce noise, deal with lens problems, avoid halos, and more

• How to show your work like a pro!

• Plus a host of shortcuts, workarounds, and slick “insider” tricks to send your productivity through the roof!

If you’re a digital photographer and you’re ready to learn the “tricks of the trade”–the same ones that today’s leading pros use to correct,

edit, sharpen, retouch, and present their wor; then this is the book for you.

5 Stars Great Tool for Post Processing
As a self taught Photoshop user, it seems like I have a world to learn. I have purchased several Photoshop books and an online course with limited success. This one book has done more to help me improve my skills than any other resource. It is not designed for the beginner, but someone who has a foundation of photoshop skills and wants to expand their reach. I really appreciate how Scott Kelby offers multiple digital post processing solutions via Photoshop techniques. I routinely reach for this book and highly recommend it.

4 Stars Easy to understand!
I used this book in a photo class and found it extremely easy to understand to work through the assignments without much help from the instructor. So I bought this book as a gift for a friend of mine to help with learning Photoshop….. I highly recommend this book!

5 Stars Scott Kelby gets right to it
Scott Kelby gets right to it. You quickly learn the most important lessons and uses of Photoshop from a photographer’s perspective.

The book is very well written and easy to follow.

You can choose to follow each topic, or if a topic is of less interest, move on to the next topic. Some of the most important topics/pages I marked with a paper clip for easy reference.

Follow this book and you will be a Photoshop god in comparison to most other photographers.

5 Stars WOW!!!!! GET THIS BOOK NOW!!!!
I can’t say enough great things about this book to do it justice. I love this book. I have had CS2 for a while, but it might as well have been Elements 1 for the good it was doing me (by the way, I don’t even know how to work Elements, or if there is even an Elements 1!). Anyway, this book is so straight forward, you don’t need to know anything beforehand. For each procedure, it talks you through it step by step. What I loved about this book was that it didn’t assume you already knew stuff, it just told you “do this and that and click this and click that”, with tons of pictures to help you along. I recommend this book IMMENSELY!!!

5 Stars Excellent book
This is an excellent book for the beginner and pro alike! Scott Kelby wrote the book in a very easy to understand format (with a few jokes thrown in for the fun of it), and everything is demonstrated and explained in a precise step by step format. If you follow the steps you cannot go wrong, and your photos will come out looking like a professional shoot. Also, anything you could think about doing with a photo is covered in this book. Excellent resource for your digital photo processing.

I wanted to post an outline of what the videos covered so those considering purchasing the DVD set could make a better decision.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Little to basic for me
Personally I was a little disappointed with this DvD. Not because it was a bad training guide, but because I knew most everything in it already. I’ve been a creative retoucher for 17 years and thought this DvD would get me up to speed on the new features in CS3. Which it did a OK job of.

All in all this would be a excellent training DvD for a Photoshop beginner or even a newer user. If you’ve been working in Photoshop as a Professional for many years, you might want to try a different book or DvD. One thing I did love was learning some newer keyboard short cuts. Deke McClelland is a smart guy, I hope he comes out with a much more advanced DvD in the future.

Cheers

5 Stars The best ‘how to’ book ever!
I found this book at the local library and kept renewing it because it was so helpful. I have elements 6 (the book is for elements 5) but this is by far the best book on elements photoshop that I have found. I have used it many times on my photos. If you are a beginner with elements like me then you will love this book! In case you are wondering, I have also purchased 3 other elements 6 photoshop books before I purchased this book. The first was ‘Photoshop Elements 6 for Dummies’, then ‘Teach Yourself Visually Adobe Photoshop Elements 6′ and last ‘Photoshop Elements 6 in easy steps’. Now I can stop!

4 Stars The Photoshop Elements 5 Restoration and retouching book
A very informative and well written book. The man knows his subject, but does not go so far into theory as to lose the average reader.

5 Stars nice book
I love this book. It makes my life easier. What more could you ask for. This was just what i needed.

5 Stars Great “Step-by-Step” Guide
Very helpful and easy to follow. If you want a step-by-step guide to correcting some of the most common photograph problems using Photoshop Elements, then this book is for you.

4 Stars Much better than a classroom-Easy way to learn Photoshop Elements
I have had elements for several years but never fully understood or took advantage of all of the great options it had to offer. After using this DVD I feel I have a much better understanding of the program and will enjoy using it so much more.

The instructor takes the total novice and walks you slowly and clearly through the program She is easy to follow and the DVD shows you clearly what you can do. To make it even better she provides practice exercise folders so you can work right along with her using the exact same pictures she is using in the instructions. The program is broken up into chapters and can be started and stopped as you need to . You can also bookmark certain pages for future reference.

My suggestion:

1.Better instruction should be provided re. how to set up the DVD and use it along with your own elements program

2. The DVD isn’t viewed well on a laptop as it would be on a full LCD screen or played on a traditional DVD player on your TV.. The reason is the screen doesn’t adjust fully to allow you to see the bottom of the screen where some adjustments are located and where the function buttons are for the DVD .

Conclusion:

I think this is a valuable learning tool and I will be able to go back and review items in the future as I need to refresh my memory or to try options that right now I don’t need . This is soooooooo much better than a simple class room training as I now have Jan Kabili on my DVD forever to help me use Elements fully.

1 Star Product fine, beware hidden costs.
Bought this from the US because I coudn’t find it on sale in UK.

5 Stars Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac
As I am a newbie to photoshop elements, I found this tutorial to be outstandingly clear and informative. As the title suggests, it is essential training. It will get you up and running using the program. Since Photoshop Elements has so many features that simply cannot be covered in a single 8 hour video.[...] I look forward to purchasing it when (and if) it becomes available.
